                    તેનાલીરામનો જન્મ હાલના આંધ્રપ્રદેશના ગુન્ટૂર જિલ્લાના તેનાલી નામના ગામમાં થયો હતો. તેનાલીરામ એક સારા કવિ પણ હતા અને `વિકટ કવિ'ના ઉપનામથી જાણીતા હતા. તેનાલીરામને વિધિવત્ રીતે શિક્ષણ પ્રાપ્ત થયું નહોતું. 
તેનાલીરામ આજીવિકા માટે `ભાગવત્ મેળા મંડળ' સાથે જોડાયા. આ મંડળ ગામેગામ ફરી ભાગવત્ના પ્રસંગો પર કાર્યક્રમો આપતું. એક દિવસ આ મંડળ મહારાજ કૃષ્ણદેવરાયના દરબારમાં પહોચ્યું અને ત્યાં એક કાર્યક્રમ પ્રસ્તુત કર્યો. આ કાર્યક્રમમાં તેનાલીરામના પ્રદર્શનથી રાજા કૃષ્ણદેવરાય ખૂબ જ પ્રભાવિત થયા અને રાજાએ તેનાલીરામને પોતાના દરબારમાં આઠમાં રત્ન તરીકે સામેલ કરી લીધા. આમ તો તેનાલીરામને હાસ્ય કવિ તરીકે રાજદરબારમાં સ્થાન આપવામાં આવ્યું હતું, પરંતુ પોતાના ચાતુર્યના કારણે તેનાલીરામ ટૂંક સમયમાં જ રાજાના વિશ્વાસુ સલાહકાર બની ગયા. મહારાજ કૃષ્ણદેવરાય ઇ.સ. 1509 થી 1529 સુધી વિજયનગરની રાજગાદી પર બિરાજમાન હતા.
                    આ સમય દરમિયાન તેનાલીરામે એમના દરબારમાં હાસ્ય કવિ અને મંત્રીની ભૂમિકા ભજવી. તેનાલીરામ રાજાના સલાહકાર ઉપરાંત એમના શ્રેષ્ઠ મિત્ર પણ હતા. ઈ.સ. 1529માં રાજા કૃષ્ણદેવરાયના અવસાન બાદ તેનાલીરામ રાજદરબાર છોડી દે છે, અને પોતાના વતન તેનાલીમાં વસી જાય છે. થોડા વર્ષો બાદ ત્યાં જ સર્પદંશથી તેમનું મૃત્યુ થયું. ઉત્તર ભારતમાં જે સ્થાન અકબર બીરબલની વાર્તાઓનું છે, એવું જ સ્થાન દક્ષિણ ભારતમાં તેનાલીરામ અને રાજા કૃષ્ણદેવરાયની વાર્તાઓનું છે. તેનાલીરામની કથાઓ દંતકથાઓની જેમ કહેવાતી આવી છે અને સદીઓથી આબાલવૃદ્ધ સૌનું મનોરંજન કરે છે.

Tenaliram was born in a village called Tenali in present day Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. Tenaliram was also a good poet and was known by the nickname of `Vikat Kavi '. Tenaliram was not formally educated.
Tenaliram joined Bhagwat Mela Mandal for livelihood. This Mandal again gives programs on the occasion of Bhagavat from village to village. One day this group reached the court of Maharaj Krishnadevaraya and presented a program there. King Krishnadevaraya was very impressed with Tenaliram's performance in this program and the king included Tenaliram as the eighth gem in his court. Thus Tenaliram was given a place in the court as a comedy poet, but due to his ingenuity Tenaliram soon became the king's trusted advisor. Maharaj Krishnadevaraya He was on the throne of Vijayanagar from 1509 to 1529.
During this time Tenaliram played the role of comedy poet and minister in his court. Tenaliram was not only Raja's advisor but also his best friend. Is. After the death of King Krishnadevaraya in 1529, Tenaliram left the palace and settled in his native Tenali. He died of a snake bite a few years later. The place of Akbar Birbal's stories in North India is the same as the place of Tenaliram and King Krishnadevaraya's stories in South India. Tenaliram's stories have been told like legends and have entertained everyone, young and old, for centuries.
